This was such a fun read. The writing isn't phenomenal, there was zero purple prose, it won't be nominated for any high-brow awards, but man, did I have a good time. Isn't that what reading is all about? This is one of those books that reminds me why I love to read so much. I finished it in days and couldn't wait to get a chance to go back and read more- and at least an hour at a time. Alec and Jamie's relationship started with a bang and the firecrackers kept going until the last page. They are attracted to each other so strongly but neither one wants to be the first to admit it, yet they can't stay apart or stop touching each other. As Jamie falls for Alec, she wants to do everything she can to please him, while still hanging onto her independence, which makes for some interesting scenes. Alec has pledged to never get angry with her, but some of the stunts she pulls to rock his ship leave him no choice. Is there a bit of 'forceful love' here? Yes, at the beginning- but you have to remember the time period. It's 1100. In Scotland. We simply can't judge folks who lived almost a thousand years ago based on today's societal standards. If you can get past that, you'll have a wonderful time with Jamie and Alec, and watch their love for each other grow over the pages. I promise you, it's worth it.
