This book was absolutely fantastic. The characters were three-dimensional and I felt for them, even the ones I barely knew. I was also extremely impressed with the many love scenes. Writers used to be very good at implying exactly what they wanted to imply, without being explicit, which would make the book unreadable for anyone with a decent level of morality. Most authors today have lost that talent, or simply do not care, because, sadly, the more explicit it is, the better our culture seems to like it. It is true that the descriptions could be rather plodding, and this might have been a rather tedious book to read, but Campbell Scott gives an excellent performance and that made all the difference. Truly an exceptional book; a classic for a reason.
