It's not often that dystopian zombie stories are written in a way that completely immerses you into the story. At every turn you are stuck between hope and despair, invested in the lives of some characters and angered by the faults of others. M. R. Carey is a master of character development and I would say that it shows more in this instalment of the series than in The Girl With All The Gifts. This was a great read, but I would suggest reading The Girl first because it makes The Boy so that much more intriguing, as you wonder how this story connects to the other. TL;DR: Definitely pick up this book. It is such a great read.
