Almost as good as the first, and that's saying something. I wouldn't describe it as being about nostalgia as much as about the regret, frustration and re-ordering of priorities that comes with late life. Perhaps you need to be of a certain age to appreciate what it's saying and if you are you'll find much to enjoy, certainly plenty with which to empathize, in here. The film achieves a nice balance between picking some of the most notable ideas from Trainspotting 1, and doing some things differently so that it's not just a regurgitation, as so many sequels are. I really didn't expect to like it, couldn't see how it could build on the first movie without either falling well short or simply repeating what it said. Not so. To my mind, if you haven't seen Trainspotting 1 you'll miss much although you won't know it judging by some of the reviews on here. Apart from anything else, there's an explanation of the title that's quite brilliant. The extras include a lengthy discussion between director and cast members which is well worth watching.
