Interesting film made in 2016 about Czech resistance to Nazi Germany. Operation Anthropoid’s mission was to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich – Hitler’s third in command and the main architect behind the Final Solution (elimination of European Jews), he was known locally as the Butcher of Prague. It follows two Czech soldiers who parachute into Czechoslovakia to meet up with local resistance fighters. The two Czech soldiers have received their orders from Czech organization in London, once in Czechoslovakia they encounter some resistance to the London issued directive. The Germans characters only speak German (no subtitles) and the locals Czechs appear rather doomed and defeated (with a die now, or die later—either way you’re going to die attitude). Film takes place in 1942. Germany has destroyed Poland and the Nazi threat is spreading. At one point Heydrich is assigned to takeover Paris, which forces the Czech resistance fighters to speed up Operation Anthropoid. Interesting viewpoint of WWII from the Czech perspective / position. Good acting, good production, a well done movie.
