I didn’t think there was anything redeemable about this book. The author was going for something profound, but it just didn’t work for me. The characters were all one-dimensional, defined mostly by who they were dating or had dated. There were four different narrators, but it was hard to even tell them apart sometimes because they didn’t have any defining traits. There were a lot of details that were supposed to be meaningful but came across as random and out of place: the town’s name is Opportunity, dying students dream of snow in Alabama, the shooter’s mother was a famous ballerina. Those details added nothing to the book. The thing that bothered me the most was how this book took a very serious topic, and made it all about teen romance.
