Highly recommended. Should be required reading for high school students to shed light on the impact of of the horror of war. While this is a work of fiction it gives a snapshot of three women's lives but actually could of been the lives of millions of everyday Germans. Germany from the fall of the Holy Roman Empire up until the start of the Great War was the envy of Europe. After a humiliating defeat in that war, the German people (most) welcomed an unknown Austrian with open arms under his mantra,"Make Germany Great Again". The rest is history. We study history to to learn the mistakes from the past as not to repeat them again. Sadly that horse is out of the gate.
