This early effort from Charlaine Harris doesn't have the expected panache of her later novels. It was less lively, compelling, and entertaining. I really think Charlaine's decision to write from the first person perspective in her more recent novels really benefitted her writing style. This book is written in the third person and you really do feel that disconnect compared to the Sookie, Roe, and Lily novels.
