My mind is absolutely BLOWN that in 2014, one of the greatest movies I have ever seen is SILENT, in BLACK-AND-WHITE and is completely NEW. This is silent informed by all the history of film. This is not the Snow-White we grew up yet, but a fairy-tale for those who have grown up in a world beyond Grimm, in a culture that knows grim. The acting and cinematography are fantastic and flawless. The ''wicked-stepmother'' is heart-stopping (in more ways than one), great casting and superior talents come together to create a new classic that surpasses the original in many ways and ironically injects a darkly modern statement while paying artistic homage to the days of cinema's infancy. Symbols lurk just beneath the surface, in shadows, clouds, and even clothesline poles. Not one visual element is an accident as the film staggeringly brings an alter-reality/past to vivid life. I've consumed a lot of cinema and yet this is truly one of the best pieces of film-art I've seen. Crushes in a uniquely traditional Spanish way (Respect!).
