Machinations and malfeasance in the House of Lords. Achieved by one malevolent character with an enormous chip on his shoulder. Unfortunately however, those shoulders are rather narrow, and the face decidedly weasel-like. Easy to believe the coldness and meanness, but it's a bit of a stretch on the seductive qualities. This is a combination practiced by very few actors with any success--James Mason, Dirk Bogarde, and even, on occasion, Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich. It eludes Ian Richardson completely, because of his effeteness, and (sorry) unattractiveness. When his Urquhart snogs another character in close-up, one's instant reaction is "EWWWWWWW!"--and NOT because of the plotline.
