Yes. I fully acknowledge Stephen King's vast contribution to the genre of horror, both in literature and in film..... But, all the same.... I neither like, nor respect Stephen King as a writer in any way, shape, or form. I have never, ever understood King's immense popularity. To me his horror stories, which seem to be churned out in such rapid-fire succession, are, at best, mediocre reading material. I know. I've read several of his novels, and short stories. I find King to be the sort of novelist who is a "quantity" writer, rather than a "quality" writer. What I mean by this is that King is the type of writer who uses 500 words (or more) to describe something that would usually take most accomplished writers, maybe, 50 words to get their point across. This particular practice of King's explains why his novels, like The Shining, are always on the thick and bulky side. Anyway - From my point of view, I really don't get any of King's popularity, at all. I mean, this guy is far-far too over-rated for what I've seen and read of his work.
