Rich and dense, without being stodgy. The colorful lives of Elizabeth and Margaret are told with grace, honesty, truth. They are real women in our point in time. A pleasure to read.

Biography of Queen Elizabeth and her sister Margaret. This edition is a new 2017 paperback but the publication date of the book is 1990, so some information is out of date (ie author refers to Margaret, the Queen Mother and Diana as living). Rather arbitrarily, the book stops in the mid 1950s right after Margaret abandons her hopes to marry Peter Townsend. In her introduction, the author notes that she has a long personal friendship with Townsend, and her information about the Townsend-Margaret romance is therefore filled with details not mentioned in other books about the royals.
