Gone are the tension, atmosphere, and paranoia of the 1982 classic; in are the jump scares and poor CGI of every other Hollywood monster movie. The only redeeming parts are the main character, the monster designs, and the ending (which I won't spoil because it's the only part of the movie that's remotely scary).

Simply awful movie. If you want to watch a masterpiece of film making then watch John Carpenter's The Thing. This version is dull, insipid and laughable.

Horrible. about the only good part of the movie was the end were the Helicopter was chasing the dog to tie it into the 80's original. Other than that another redo or prequal that was unnecessary and badly done.

Pretty tepid prequel to John Carpenter's excellent " The Thing ".

I checked this out thinking it was the 80's version. I like it a little better this time than I did when it first came out, but it was still pretty terrible. A few cool ideas, but wayyy too many "homage" & plagiarized material, too many stupid scenes, crappy CGI, etc. Worth a watch if you're bored or haven't seen the 'series'.

The CGI effects may be slicker, and the cast of big burly Norwegians easier on the eye, but this inferior prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 horror classic plays more like a weak rehash than an original vision. Director Matthijs van Heijningen tries to copy Carpenter’s original mood with dark claustrophobic interior scenes set against a backdrop of bleak mountains and endless snowfields; he even plagiarizes the opening title shot and much of the original musical score. However, although the creature sequences themselves are gruesomely effective as it morphs and melts into grotesque parodies of the humans it has ingested, he has nothing new to say. In fact, several key scenes seem to be copied directly from Carpenter’s film while the alien ship’s interior seems remarkably similar to the one found in Ridley Scott’s Alien. In the end we are left with a few jolts, some nightmarish visuals, and an overwhelming sense of déjà vu. At least the dog escaped...

As a sci-fi junky I really enjoyed this movie. This is a prequel to the John Carpenter’s The Thing. Sure there are a bunch of holes in it but overall the movie flows well, special effects are good and the acting is decent. Up until the last 15 minutes, I really enjoyed it. Make sure to watch the credits so that you see the continuity into the next movie. If you enjoy sci-fi\horror give this a watch.

It was a decent movie. The most fun was trying to figure out which one was the alien.

Prequel interpretation of John Carpenter's 1982 film of the same name: how "the Thing" came about and all the horror scenes later discovered in the Norwegian camp. If you like the Aliens series, this one will not disappoint..

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.

Violence: There's gore and blood and deaths. And the monster was not a pretty sight.

Coarse Language: Profanities, like the f-word, are used once in a while. And a really terrible "sex" joke was told.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Can be frightening for the under 12 so parents should watch with them.
