This selection from the short works really only gets good by the story "The Fox", and the one after that, the novella "St. Mawr". Its the last four stories that really move, especially "The Woman who rode away", "The Man Who loved islands", and lastly "The Man Who Died", which are part poetry, part scripture, and part mythology, all woven into profound narrative, the kind of narrative that is not merely story, but is a from of thought.
