This is a pretty amusing Gangster parody - at least as good as 90% of the films made by Tarentino. In typical Fassbinder style, a theme is laid out and most everything is improvised - the total shooting time no more than 2 days. For a subject like this it is probably for the better and it is dangerous to try and read any deeper meaning into it.

This film marks a decisive step towards 'real' Fassbinder: the absurdity of its world of second-hand experience invests every cliché with a meaning it never had before.

One of Fassbinder's early films, "The American Gangster" is part parody of cheap, hard boiled detective movies and part existential commentary on human loneliness. The real genius of the film is that it succeeds in making the viewer chuckle at the deadpan ways in which it spoofs film noir without trivializing the underlying theme of loneliness.

Written and directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, this is a 1970 West German crime drama.
Ricky, a German-American Vietnam veteran, takes a job as a hired assassin on behalf of three renegade policemen to do away with a number of undesirables in Munich.
The storyline appears to have been written by an amateur without screen-writing expericnce.
It dose NOT make any sense at all.
After all, it is a disappointing flop.
