Beyonce's fascinating performance as a thinly-veiled version of Diana Ross is a major draw for both the film and its related soundtrack, and that's possibly received the most media attention out of everything. At the same time, however, the big smash truly is Jennifer Hudson's compelling, dramatic character, going through all kinds of trials and tribulations in her quest to be a real 'Dreamgirl'. Eddie Murphy's spirited take on classic r&b wild men such as Jackie Wilson is also fantastic. This soundtrack album captures the musical film's best moments, including the show-stopper "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going". It's totally recommended to anybody with an interest in the stage production specifically or r&b music more generally.
