The Terminator is an iconic film that kicked off one of the biggest series' in the world. It features revolutionary special effects, and has one of the coolest time travel stories ever. Arnold Schwarzenegger creates a very convincing and terrifying portrayal of a robot from the future, sent back in time to hunt and kill its target. The entire movie is full of suspense and fear. This creates a very exciting and engaging movie with a powerful soundtrack. The one liners from Arnold are obviously classic too, and every fight scene, and chase scene are fun to watch. My only negative is that the film hasn't aged as well as other movies from the time, mostly due to some of the odd looking prosthetics that they used. @ecozones of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

3rd time around for this one. It's been years since I last saw it. The movie's power is undiminished by time, fad-and-fashion and CGI. Howcum? What makes this modestly budgeted oldie (30+ years now,) STILL the hold-your-breath grabber it was first time around?

The story. For that we have relative newcomers, Director James Cameron and his producer Gale Hurd to thank. Cameron's always put story first (and effects, in a secondary support role.) Some of the writing is simply superb, allowing viewers to bond with these two desperate humans, fleeing for their lives--and the lives of the unborn child who will hold the key to the future.

As director, Cameron gets the most from Arnold Swartzenegger, Michael Biehn in the first of many pairings, and Linda Hamilton in her fourth movie role, here. Like Biehn, she's still very active, as are Cameron and Hurd (as, among other things, producer of the enormously successful and influential, The Walking Dead.)

The effects: still fabulous after all these decades--a melange of, among other things, believable Stop Motion and superb miniature work all made even more convincing by great work by relative newcomer--and now veteran--Mark Goldblatt, as editor.

What a script! What a team! What a classic.

A classic.
My sister told me she doesn't like action movies or sci-fi, but she likes this action sci-fi movie.
Because it's interesting, solid, and clever.
This is the best in the series. Terminator 2 is the only other one really worth watching.

Much of Terminator's greatness is due to its low-budget aesthetic and lo-fi energy; perhaps out of necessity, Cameron's sense of storytelling has a lean efficiency that both he and the series have long since abandoned.

The movie still holds up, nearly 30 years later, despite some funny and interesting plot holes.

Great film. At the time this was groundbreaking--and it still is. Even though the acting (mediocre at best), and special effects (cheesy by todays standards) were not so hot, the story centertainly is and stands among some of the best science fiction films to date.

An all time classic sci-fi/action film- you can argue that despite the relatively low budget, this is the best of the series.

Well, darlings - Personally, I think that it would've made a whole lot more sense if the Terminator had actually been sent even farther back in time and that way he could've terminated Sarah's parents before they even met each other. Yeah. That way we wouldn't of had to tolerate Sarah Connor (the dummy) at all in this movie.

Doesn't that sound better to you? It sure does to me.

The Terminator: [while wearing sunglasses] I'm a friend of Sarah Connor. I was told she was here. Could I see her please?

Desk Sergeant: No, you can't see her she's making a statement.

The Terminator: Where is she?

Desk Sergeant: [uses his pencil to point to the bench] Look, it may take a while. Want to wait? There's a bench over there.

[points to bench]

The Terminator: [looks around, examining the structural integrity of the room, then looks back at him] I'll be back!
