Presents the story of Gus, a British WW-II fighter pilot, who during the Battle of Britain turned to look out on the wing of his plane only to see an amazing sight: a little man, no more than six inches tall with horns growing from his head, drilling a hole in the plane's wing. What happened after that would change the war, and the world, forever.

A cute simple story, and a great explanatory intro by Leonard Maltin. Not as subtle as Dahl's later work, but I'm glad I read it.

I would love to have seen the film for this story. I was sorry to learn in Leonard Maltin's introduction that the film was never made. This is not a book for young children. There is a lot of text and the story is set during World War II and set within the lives of fighter pilots. The main human character is shot twice in the leg through his plane. The Gremlins also cause a lot of damage to British planes.
