Vivian Brazier never thought life as an art photographer would include shooting headshots for aspiring male actors or nightly wake-up calls to snap photos of grisly crime scenes. After shooting crime scene photos of a famous actress, the latest victim of the "Dagger Killer," Vivian notices eerie similarities to the crime scenes of previous Dagger Killer victims -- details that lead Vivian to become a target herself. Nick Sundridge has always been able to "see" things that others can't. His talent makes him a recluse but a brilliant investigator. As the only one with the ability to help, Nick is sent to protect Vivian. Together, they discover the Dagger Killer has ties to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood royalty and high society.
Vivian Brazier, who is a photographer, struggling to make it in Adelina Beach, California, opens her door to a man who announces that her life is in danger and he is there to be her bodyguard. And he is right: that night an incendiary device is thrown in her window, and her rented house burns down. Which was the second attempt on her life. But she (with a few precious negatives and a camera) makes it out along with Nick Sundridge and his dog, Rex. Probably the target of a deliberate killer, Vivian escapes to Burning Cove in her nightgown with Nick and Rex. Nick plans to lure the killer there. But who is it? There are a number of candidates.
The resolution is much more complicated than you might imagine. Too many loose ends keep surfacing, making the story a more involved tale. Other Burning Cove residents appear in supporting roles.
Probably my favorite part was when Vivian met Rex, who fell in love immediately.
In "Close Up" Amanda Quick returns to Burning Cove with another romantic thriller.
Vivian Brazier is a photographer who wants to be an artist. She pays the bills with
photojournalistic shots which she keeps on the downlow lest they ruin her artistic
reputation. In the process of making a living she gets herself into to sights of a serial
killer. With her usual flair for action and characters that the reader roots for, Ms. Quick
has created another winner in this 4th title in the Burning Cove series.

Two chapters in, it was obvious that it would be all too similar to most of her recent books. Crazed killer included.
recommended by Kristine Rusch, read 2. Don't bother with more.
