I'd watched the first episode on PBS, missed the rest, and am delighted that you've added it to the collection (yes, I realize I'll have to wait.....). But would it not be only fair to mentions, in a field that would show up on search, that this is based on Jane Austen's final and unfinished novel? Many Janeites try to keep up with the derivative works, which are so many that a little help from the catalog would surely be welcome.

Compulsively watchable, but it suffers a bit from having a central relationship that, while interesting on its own, is simply far less interesting than almost everything else going on in the show. Having said that, I really enjoyed this adaptation. (Viewer beware - the series ends on a cliffhanger, and there are currently no plans for a second season.)

My husband and I enjoy Jane Austin. We very much enjoyed this rendition of her incomplete work--until the end. I don't think Davies did justice to the spirit of Jane Austin considering her other works. He did a marvelous job with Pride and Prejudice, but this one left us sour.

A nice 8-episode series. It's about 80% light-hearted things and the rest has a little light drama. The acting and scenery were good and as a plus, there was very little if any profanity stuck in there for no reason other than to have it. It was kind of like a Hallmark movie set in 1800's England. We will for sure watch a season 2 if there is one.

OK, this is *not* Jane Austen. I read the book, and I don't recognize much of it here. The main romance bobs up and down like a yo-yo, unlike the standard Austen story arc. The characters and manners are (mostly) there, but, overall, it lacks the real Austen feel.

I strongly suspect that, making a series of it, the producers felt they could string it out to a second season, and just haven't admitted that yet.

Fantastic show, plot, and great actors.

I wasn't too keen about the last minutes of the ending ....sad. But the whole series was on the edge of your seat... Plenty of funny, romance, aggression, twists, scheming, adventure, heart rendering...well watch it!!!!

This has about as much to do with Jane Austen as a pair of scissor does to a potato. Given the outline and first portion of the book, these film-makers decided not to just take a couple or even a few liberties, but to go almost completely walkabout. The only things they got right were the costumes, SOME of the dialogue and the casting. (So refreshing to see old-fashioned faces instead of modern ones.) But the rest - Worst of all - the cliffhanger end - so completely not Jane Austen. Does not even compare with other Austen productions such as Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth (the ne plus ultra of Mr Darcys) and Sense & Sensibility with Emma Thompson. Watch those. Miss this.
