I am a big fan of Battle Angle from it's Manga days. This movie brought Alita to life.

Alita Battle Angel is a cyberpunk, sci-fi, post-apocalypse action flick origin story (there's GOT to be a sequel) about a cyborg collected from parts from a scrounge by Dr. Ido (played by Christoph Waltz) who secretly realizes the real purpose of the parts he collected (ie., Alita is a warrior bot from the pre-apocalypse). Alita then has to find out for herself what she is and what her role is to be and she does this playing a game she finds herself all too well adapted to in "motorball". The "establishment" tries to control the denizens of "Iron City" (the lowly peasants who toil and supply Zolem .. the floating city of the elite) through mercenaries as well as the motorball events. Alita fights these both in the motorball arena as well as out to help her friend, Hugo, reach his goal (Zolem) but finds out that only a motorball champion can enter there. Its quite a thrill ride with lots of action scenes of the game as well as Alita's dispatching of her adversaries. Very similar scenario as "Rollerball" (1975) and "Hunger Games" where the despotic authorities amuse the masses by pitting them against themselves in violent endeavors only to have to quash any hopes when an individual actually masters their premise because ... well, they're just "rabble". Directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron.

Really good futuristic movie!

Really pretty good. Action sci fi set in the future. Not too dark or too deep. Just a bit o fun.

Tween boy and Dad enjoyed the action.

This is a dystopian type movie where body augmentation and wealth allow you to live in the best part of the city high in the sky, while the rest of the poor and desperate fight to get the opportunity to ascend through battle.

The over the top fight scenes look fine but also don't make sense in a physics sense. Alita being fast AND strong makes no sense especially when she is stronger than a giant cybernetic man. The story is kind of pointless, the bounties and the rules behind them are pretty dumb especially when the sentinel type machines can instantly beat any assassin so why even use them. The movie sets up a sequel that will never happen. It's an alright action/sci-fi movie but don't get too invested.

Along with Ghost in the Shell (2017), my favorite movie right now...when is Rodriguez gonna finally remake Barbarella?

Really, really, really well done, watched it just in plain DVD, I think it would be so awesome in 4K, or even blue ray. Worth the watch. Can't wait to see if number Two is as good and entertaining.

Lots of the quotes from the main feature film is on IMDb already. The special feature "The Fall (The story of the great war)" is a must watch for the origin of Atila in the film that began 300 years after The Fall.

The fall of the worlds, it was the war to end all wars. There was no one left to fight, no war memorials, no wall with the names of the dead, no statues of heroes, only 50 cities in the ruins of great civilizations on two planets, tumbleweeds, skulls, crows. Only in Zalem did the lights stay on. Who attack first? It doesn't matter. Once it starts there is always a wrong which needs to be righted, always an attack which needs to be avenged. Memory is short, Hatred, Islam and truth were the first casualty. Humanity's failure is that it started. Our past began as one humans looked outward founding colonies among the stars. Earth and Mars were the ... Alita was born at this moment in history. An innocent human child brought to life on Mars. She was called Yoko until the war ...
