Somewhat interesting but not terribly believable.

Way too boring to see it through!

just so you know, Alia Shawkat plays a very small part in this movie.

Deliberately slow and meditative. Feels like a realistic depiction of Pacific NW rural eco vegan culture and the two young radicals, introvert Eisenberg and radical ex rich girl Fanning, who emerge from it, helped out by ex Marine Saarsgard, who seems more of an adventurist. The director's obviously looking for realism. The plot is slow but engaging and even suspenseful, and the performances are terrific. Recommended. Especially if your taste runs more to Chinatown, for example, than Die Hard.

Meh. Not bad, not good. Fine performances, light on character development, and plot, and purpose. Could use a good half hour edit. Recommended if you are trying to fill in seeing any of the actors' body of works.

Not to be confused with the 1970s Gene Hackman or the Bob Seger song. There should be a movie called "Nightmoves: The Bob Seger Story." Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning, and Peter Sarsgaard star as environmental activists (Some may prefer terrorists.), who blow up a dam. However, the story is less about that and more about the aftermath and the consequences, especially for Eisenberg and Fanning, who work at a cooperative farm. If you've seen any of Kelly Reichardt's films ("Wendy and Lucy," "Meek's Cutoff," "Certain Women"), who know she works slowly and deliberately, and it doesn't seem entirely fair to call her films boring. It's a good subject and the film and performances are understated. Alia Shakwat, Katherine Waterston, and James Le Gros have small parts. Filmed in Oregon.

One of the other commentators mentioned CRIME AND PUNISHMENT, and if that's what Kelly Reichardt was doing here, re-framing fictionalized Earth Firsters! as modern day Raskolnikovs, well, it's certainly more interesting -- comparing 21st century radical ecologists with 19th century radical utilitarians -- than the actual movie, which halfway through becomes improbably Hitchcockian. If this is the best American indie cinema can muster, oh what an embarrassment it is.

I gave up on this within a few moments.

Lots of ideas, none really realized. Much too complicated, and it's hard to tell what the point is supposed to be.

In "Night Moves", the characters drift between principle and ambiguity. It's a thoughtful and well-crafted film. The acting, photography and soundtrack are all quietly impressive. In fact the movie should really get a 4-star rating - but I'm penalizing it one and a half stars for leaving me creeped out and depressed.
