In Pumpkinheads , beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Rainbow Rowell and Eisner Award-winning artist Faith Erin Hicks have teamed up to create this tender and hilarious story about two irresistible teens discovering what it means to leave behind a place--and a person--with no regrets.

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they've worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they're reunited every September 1.

But this Halloween is different--Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah's ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn't ready to let him. She's got a plan : What if--instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut--they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he's been mooning over for three years . . .

What if their last shift was an adventure?

This is a fresh and fun read! Deja and Josiah are two best friends who work together every Autumn at a charming pumpkin patch. Reading Pumpkinheads left me with warm, fuzzy feelings for Fall and the wonderful atmosphere that goes along with it!

Alison's Pick. Alison writes: Pumpkinheads is a graphic novel that's a love letter to everything awesome about fall and features a misadventure on Halloween with two employees at a pumpkin patch.

Every autumn, Deja and Josiah work together at the same pumpkin patch. On Halloween, their last shift together, outgoing Deja is determined to get quiet and reserved Josiah to have some fun and finally talk to his crush. This sweet and funny graphic novel is perfect for sweater weather.

Pumpkinheads is an absolutely delightful, funny and thoughtful love letter to autumn and the people who love it, like me! And I so wish there was a pumpkin patch like DeKnock's, I would go in a heartbeat.

Definitely really cute. Although predictable. I wish I would have read it in October instead. Since it made me so in the mood for fall. (Definitely want a caramel apple now.) I love the way the characters were drawn and it was a nice little story. Debating if I want to buy it or not.

Rainbow Rowell has done it again! She has such a talent for creating characters and relationships. I loved the graphic novel format - it made the setting even more realistic and relatable.

Absolutely delightful as a graphic novel, this is a pairing that needs to do so much more together. Faith Erin Hicks's art is perfect for Deja and Josiah's story about the last night working in the pumpkin patch they have worked in for a few years, and trying to figure out how to have the best last night. It's perfect!

SO CUTE. I absolutely adored this book! Sometimes it's hard for me to connect to the story and characters in a graphic novel, but this one was so well done that I was immediately entranced.

"I'm your friend. And friends don't let friends live small lives." (15)

Deja and Josiah's personalities and friendship explodes off the page. They're both fully realized and so different from each other yet their friendship makes so much sense. There were several times I was literally laughing out loud because of their conversations and even their facial expressions. Kudos to the illustrator Faith Erin Hicks for doing a damn good job bringing these characters to life.

The pumpkin patch felt so magical. It made me want to work at one for a season or two. I think growing up in Nebraska and visiting pumpkin patches similar to this one made it much easier to imagine the atmosphere.

"People all sort of look the same to me until I talk to them. That's when they start to get interesting. That's when they start to... shimmer." (146)

There's awesome representation as well. Deja is plus-size, black, and queer (it isn't explicitly stated if she's bi or pan). Rainbow Rowell describes Deja as "super-cute, like a chubby Gabrielle Union." And there are several other POC and LGBTQ+ characters.

Definitely a perfect autumnal read (or any time of the year) that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.

If you're looking for a quick, light-hearted graphic novel then this is for you. Taking place all in one evening, two friends try to make the most of their last night at their seasonal job before they go off to school. Sweet and funny, this book is great for middle grade and high school readers.

Adorable! Fun adventures with friends before going off to college plot. Loved the bisexual representation and all the glorious pumpkin patch food described. Silly and feel good characters with a comforting fall back drop.

If you're looking for great art, fun dialogue, and the perfect combination of high school job shenanigans and preparing for big life changes (all with a great pumpkin patch backdrop) then look no further. Seriously. This was too cute.
