I tend to agree with Reading Right's comment. I was intrigued by this movie's premise, but I thought the ending was a bit lame and a copout. Deliberately obscure conclusion or just lazy screenwriting? You be the judge. Julianne Moore is, as usual, great. I would watch Julianne Moore do a Briscoes commercial...she is THAT GOOD.

I had Forgotten this movie; which was a good thing...
Starts out pretty good, but deteriorates toward the end (as most Follywood productions do), and neither ending is very good. (The Alternate one completely contradicts itself, though the Theatrical one does too, to a degree.) i.e. IF it's an Experiment, wouldn't you want the results to be accurate/truthful, instead of forcing it to fit a preconceived narrative? (Well, if you're a Progressive Leftist, I guess not. These Aliens must be from the San Francisco Bay Area. I thought that guy looked familiar! : ) Also, the "Alien Scientist" apparently has to answer to someone, & they would see him manipulating the "results". Oh brother.
And, WHAT ABOUT THE FATHER??? (Oh yeah. In the "Progressive" <not> world, fathers aren't needed, but most definitely, not 2 parents!! Maybe someone should clue the Producers into real world statistics.)

A chilling fantasy movie with some good actors.

As a huge fan of visual and audio effects i have to say i like this movie. I especially love the visual and sound effects of the aliens snatching the characters into the sky, as you watch it on your HOMETHEATER. I thought the story was ok but it was the effects that had me go to a store and buy it for $3.99 with an extended version. I won't call this movie a classic but i did enjoy it and i like the aliens. I'm giving this movie 3 and a half stars. Great visual and audio effects, decent story and characters, good aliens. UTZ buttered popcorn and coke.

Didn't like it. I thought OPL would leave well enough alone and accede to this film's apt title. This is truly a film best "forgotten", and why OPL would resurrect it now (it was released in 2005 to terrible reviews) is beyond the pale of disbelief - given how many really great movies there out there today that deserve to be on OPL shelves - either as a one-off-copy like this, or as an additional copy of an existing DVD. THE FORGOTTEN is nothing more than a grim psychological drama that turns into an implausible horror melodrama, and ends up darn right stupid in its science fiction assumptions and assertions. I was a fan of X-Files because of Scully and Mulder, and the incredibly fine acting and clever scripts that propelled the action and plot - not because of the mythical storyline of: "They're out there". I mean - it worked like a charm to get me initially interested in the show, but it wasn't the sustaining logic that kept me a fan. Here - THE FORGOTTEN wants us to trust what's never been proven - or reported, I might add - by believing in this woman's dilemma. Unfortunately - it's so surreal, it's incomprehensible, notwithstanding the plot's ultimate supernatural premise. Where's a real investigation on this by the cops in this film? Where's the 24 hr. ready to pounce international news media? Where's (at least) the ever gullible public? If the National Lampoon can report on Elvis and (shame) Michael Jackson sightings in Elmer Ontario - why not this? Sorry... ain't buying any of it - despite Julianna Moore's very competent-as-always performance. If not for that - it wouldn't have got even the 2 stars given!

Note to OPL and Bibliocommons: Today, I also submitted reviews on:

Why were they not circulated as RECENTLY REVIEWED ITEMS?
