For those of you who aren’t aware, this is the Marvel comics event that last year’s Avengers: Infinity War was largely based off of. And I can see why. The stakes are set from the very start of this 250-page volume, in ways that are both similar and distinct from its cinematic counterpart. There are times for grave sorrow, times for exuberant joy, and still more times of sorrow. But the one thing that stays the same is the suspense. And surprisingly, this book also presents its readers with philosophical ideas about the nature of humanity and of the universe that are easy to understand, but at the same time can become an interesting thought exercise. And while these ideas are not always presented in a straight-forward way, they nonetheless obviously present. I had huge expectations for this book, and yet it still delivered. For that, an easy ten out of ten. @R2-D2 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

This comic is not very much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Infinity War, rather it is its own weird 90s thing. Thanos has the infinity gauntlet and is omnipotent so he's wiping out life to impress Lady Death, but she isn't having it. Lots of superheroes get involved trying to stop Thanos and the universe doesn't come to an end (spoiler alert).

I liked this book for its currently unfashionable character narration of the action. Though the narration made it feel older, the cosmic illustrations were similar to contemporaneous Sandman comics. I also enjoyed reading a comic that was doing something less commercially sophisticated than current Marvel offerings.

This collected edition picks up just as Thanos is acquiring the infinity gems, and when he snaps his fingers--well, you know what happens! The majority of the volume talks about what happens *next*, so if you want a sneak preview of what could potentially be coming in Infinity War Part 2, definitely check this out! But I'll be honest--I think the movie will probably differ radically from the comics, because some key players in the comics don't show up in the movies at all!

Jim Starlin is fantastic.

If you need a quick brush up with possible spoilers to the films, this six issue compilation is the way to go.

If you want to dig even deeper, I recommend going further back and reading the Captain Marvel, Adam Warlock, and Silver Surfer content that involve Thanos and the Thanos Quest, all of which set the stage for The Infinity Gauntlet event.

Infinity Gauntlet is the quintessential Marvel crossover; a bunch of characters are brought together with warnings of impending doom, a ton of cosmic power is tossed around, and in the end absolutely nothing changes. Still, it has some of the best artwork of George Perez's career.

If you're curious about how the current rash of Avengers and other Marvel movies might bring all of the Marvel superheroes together, here's a clue. Will Joss Whedon (director of the Avengers movies) follow this storyline? Probably not, but still cool for Marvel fans to check out their different favorite heroes (Black Widow is my fave) and see what happens.

This book is the book that the third Avengers movie will be loosely based on. It is a classic story and Marvel's biggest company-wide crossover since "Secret Wars II". I highly recommend it to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Why couldn't I have kept my eyes shut just a few more seconds?
But I didn't, so I ended up witnessing a sight that I'm sure will haunt my dreams for years to come. - Spider-man
