The #1 New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award winning authors are back with an electrifying new novel that will leave your heart racing.

Kendra Michaels, formerly blind and now a hired gun for law enforcement agencies who relies on her razor-sharp powers of observation, is reluctant to help the FBI with the most recent case they've brought to her. But then she hears the details: the body was found just blocks away from Kendra's condo. The young woman was carrying an envelope with Kendra's name on it, and inside was an SD card with what appears to be an innocuous video of a wedding reception. The woman died trying to get the video to Kendra, but for what purpose? Before Kendra and the FBI can answer that question, the bride is abducted from her suburban home.

And so the hunt is on for a killer whose nightmarish plan is slowly becoming clear. A plan that involves a powerful law firm and a multi-billion dollar corporation. As the body count rises, Kendra joins forces with private investigator Jessie Mercado and agent-for-hire Adam Lynch to stop the plot as it grows ever closer to its terrifying conclusion.

In Double Blind , Iris and Roy Johansen deliver an emotional, gripping new entry in the bestselling Kendra Michaels series.

Back in the "olden" days when we would buy paperbacks at the airport to entertain us during a flight, Iris Johanssen was always one of the authors I would search for. Her books are entertaining, move quickly, and not so deep that you wrestle with surrounding distractions. A fair amount of disbelief has to be set aside, but we know that going in to any escapist novel.

A good addition to the series, but still quite entertaining as a standalone.

Kendra Michaels was blind from birth. Until she wasn’t; due to a rare, successful stem cell surgery. While she was blind, her determined, brilliant mother decided that Kendra was going to grow up to extraordinary. Kendra thought this was a fine idea, and in furtherance of this goal developed her other senses to an almost otherworldly degree. Even when Kendra gained her sight, she still honed this talent of noticing what most of us have always missed.
This ability did not go unnoticed by the FBI, and they have often made use of her talents. As Kendra remarks upon during a self-defense lesson with Adam Lynch, there have been 26 attempts on her life; which might be a record for a well known musical therapist working with autistic kids. Not surprisingly, Kendra is not always pleased to be drawn into their cases as a consultant. Luckily she always has Lynch, the man called upon by governments or their agencies for special jobs.
Lynch is almost always at Kendra’s side or at her back when she is consulting.
Special Agent in Charge of the San Diego office FBI office, Michael Griffin personally recruits Kendra into an hours old case. A woman has purposely run into traffic and been killed a few blocks from Kendra’s home. The police have found an envelope containing a memory stick with Kendra’s name on it. (This would really be one the very few reason the FBI would be called to a non-terrorist murder scene, unless it was a known a known part of a series or a hate crime. You are welcome). The memory stick contains a video of a lovely wedding reception. Nothing overtly remarkable about the video, until members of the wedding party begin to disappear. Kendra and best friend Olivia use their skills to unravel and try to stop the upcoming deaths the video portends.
Adam Lynch and Jessie Mercado, a private detective and friend to Kendra, are also determined to stay involved with Kendra’s case when they discover the presence of a quasi-government security agency. Both Mercado and Lynch have experiences with this company.
Kendra and Olivia are intriguing, strong women. They are super-women of the realistic kind, not the comic book variety. They live their lives to the fullest, and show extraordinary skill, grace and determination.
Double Blind is darker than previous books in the series. Stretched to her limits by heartbreak, Kendra is forced to understand she can’t always protect her loved ones, a circle wider than previously she previously admits.
Pacing and a plot that makes the book hard to put down, Double Blind is a terrific addition to the Kendra Michael series. I always suggest reading an entire series so as not to miss out, but its fine to start with this one because of the stellar summation in my first two paragraphs.
