IMO - "Female Trouble" was pretty much just a tiresome and tacky exercise in extremely bad taste where director/screenwriter, John Waters certainly went well out of his way in order to irritate and repel his audience (all for the sake of laughs, of course).

This low-budget production (which was very amateurish on all counts) not only contained some rather repulsive sexual situations, but its dialogue was frequently punctuated by plenty of foul-mouthed profanity, too.

Filmed back in 1974 on a bargain-basement budget of just $25,000 - John Waters' "Female Trouble" was, pretty much, an "in-your-face" white-trash soap opera.

Set on the sleazy side of Baltimore and starring the bloated and abrasive transvestite, Harris Milstead (aka. Divine) - "Female Trouble" gleefully delivered its gender-bending story about crime & beauty with the sole purpose to disgust and offend the viewer.

To be sure - "Female Trouble" is the sort of film that certainly isn't gonna appeal to all tastes. But, with that said - It's definitely something of a real curios novelty. Indeed!

It was campy & cheesy. Just what I would expect from Waters and Miss Divine. Loved it.

Starring the infamous Divine, shocking life story of a very large size female named Dawn Davenport, a film in the Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat. Brothers Grimsby …) style of provocative (gross & perverted to many) satire on the insanity of an American subculture. Roger Ebert review commented that “Dawn Davenport, the larger-than-life delinquent played by Divine“ was a source of inspiration for Precious 2009. Don’t look for another “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 1994,” because Divine was cast as female gender from child to death. Great story telling, especially with “no budget”, estimated to be US$25K!

...one of my favorite John Waters movies. The dialogue in the court room scene is literally verbatim from the Manson trial transcripts! (Waters was in attendance there in Los Angeles) Divine and Edith Massey are just wonderful in this. Truly one of the great underground American films of the 20th Century. Masterpiece.

The worst piece of crap i have ever seen in my life. I'm sure there have been better movies made by high school drama classes. This movie has no redeeming value. It is just amateurish and boring. It is not funny and it doesn't even succeed as a gross-out film. The acting is just horrible don't waste your time

Tons of quotes in IMDb, not sure about these:

The reality from start of the film:
From your appearance, Miss Davenport, it looked like you never stopped eating.
One of the crimes:
Her daughter Taffy came in and they had a big fight over religious freedom. Donna and I were terrified... but stood by helplessly.
The defendant:
We have heard some incredibly bizarre testimony and we have seen some
damaging physical evidence but my client is innocent innocent by reason of insanity. Listen to her testimony. Listen to the whisperings of a madwoman and decide for yourselves if she is not insane, who is? I do not ask you to forgive her. I do not ask you to set her free. I ask you to have the courage to help her. Find her insane so that she can be put away in a mental hospital for the rest of her natural life.
