Well played by Shia LaBeouf (Transformers: 2007; Fury: 2014) and Sverrir Gudnason (Blowfly Park: 2014)! The film was a good attempt in showing the stresses, pressures, and self doubt, that a top tennis player faces and demands upon themselves.
The special features on this DVD has an introspective seven minute interview with the director Janus Metz, followed by just as interesting four minute interview with Shia LaBeouf, and a three minute interview with Sverrir Gudnason.
This film was just as interesting and as well done as the 2017 Battle of the Sexes, non-documentary tennis bio film. Bjorn Borg's real life younger son, Leo Borg, plays the young Bjorn of age 9 - 13. Stellan Skarsfard (Thor: 2011; Thor: The Dark World: 2013; Avengers: Age of Ultron: 2015; Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again: 2018) plays Bjorn Borg's coach.
Bjorn Borg: Career title of 68 titles; won 11-time grand slam champion and was a five-time grand slam finalist before retiring in January 1983 at the age of 26. At the 1974 French Open, Borg became the youngest champion in history, as an 18-year-old. Borg reeled off four straight French Open championships in 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981. At Wimbledon he became a five-time champion from 1976-80. Borg, rose to No. 1 in the world in August 1977, never won the US Open in ten attempts or Australian Open (only entered once in 1974).
John McEnroe: Career titles of 155 titles; won 17-time grand slam champion and was a 7-time grand slam finalist. McEnroe was ranked in the World Top 10 in singles for nine years, finishing No. 1 four consecutive years (1981-1984) and spent 170 weeks atop the rankings. He was the top-ranked doubles player for five consecutive years (1979-1983). He played Davis Cup for 12 years, helping the Americans win the Cup five times (1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1992). In his 16-years playing in the majors, McEnroe only entered the Australian five times and played the French 10 years. Source: International Tennis Hall of Fame.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I was very young when this happened, and thought it was very interesting and highly entertaining.

A lot of hulla balloo about nothing? Maybe. I am old enough Ito remember watching this duel play out live but wasn't aware of McEnroe behind the scenes nor the pressures that Borg was facing. Might have been more interesting to see the 'changing of the guard' when McEnroe ascended to the throne of Wimbledon. Nevertheless well acted by all involved.

The intense tiebreaker caps this detailed exploration of the famous 1980 Wimbledon tennis match between the cool, gentlemanly Bjorn Borg and volatile, foul-mouthed John McEnroe. The plot delves into their childhood: McEnroe's dad is a demanding perfectionist; Borg himself nearly bails out due to his own temper and changes course with help from an insightful coach. Good storytelling of what makes an imperfect champion and how they manage mental/emotional stress—and interestingly, Borg and McEnroe became friends later in life. Both actors ace their roles: Sverrir Gudnason as Borg, Shia LaBeouf as McEnroe.

Note: partially in Swedish, with English subtitles. If you like this movie, you'd probably like Diane Lane in Secretariat, about the great race horse and the woman whose belief in him made him a champion.

I highly recommend this movie which focuses on the back stage life of those exceptional champions : raw emotions, keen psychological insights, great replays of famous game scenes make it an unforgettable portrait of two rivals who had to sacrifice relationships with family, friends, coaches in order to devote their inner self and energy to THE GAME.

John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg were two of the greatest tennis players of all time. To learn more about their families, training and competitive spirit was amazing. Two completely different approaches to tennis. The movie captures the personality make up of both players. Now tennis matches take time to recreate. So if your not a tennis fan, you may not have the patience or interest to enjoy the movie. If you do enjoy watching tennis, then this just might be the best tennis movie ever made!

Well done film about the meeting of two tennis greats, McEnroe and Borg. Set near the end of Borg's career and the beginning of McEnroe's rise; Wimbledon finals 1980. Each man's absurd and obnoxious qualities are revealed, which interestingly draws them together in reciprocal fascination.
Be aware: McEnroe swears excessively throughout the movie, as is his fashion.

I really enjoyed this film- about one of the greatest tennis matches with two of the greatest tennis players. A well made production with fine acting by the two leads.

To enjoy this film it helps if you remember the days when Borg and McEnroe were at the top of their tennis games, back in the 80's, and you yourself enjoy tennis as a sport. Once you have met these criteria, you will find the film to be an enjoyable sports rivalry drama, giving you much of the off-court lives of these two players, and their very different personalities.
