A dramatized, in-depth look at how FBI profiler Jim Fitzgerald pioneered the use of forensic linguistics to help track down Ted Kaczynski, the man who came to be known as the "Unabomber." Agent Fitzgerald faced an uphill battle against both Kaczynski and the bureaucracy of the UNABOM task force in the course of his efforts to identify, capture, and convict Kaczynski of his serial bombings.

Even though this tv show does not represent true events entirely, is still engaging with nicely paced story and believable acting.Ted Kaczynski‘s Manifesto is very prophetic.

This story of the Unabomber is a psychological study into the making of the man who mailed bombs across the country in the 70s and also of the profiling that led to his capture. Spoiler alert: this does not make the FBI or Harvard look good. I learned that there is a lot more to this story than meets the eye. Very thought provoking.

Premiered on Discovery Channel on August 1, 2017, this American 8-episode miniseries depict a fictionalized account of the FBI's hunt for the Unabomber.
Although the film was based on the real events, the protoganist (Jim Fitzgerald) never met Ted Kaczynski (the Unabomber).
He was not in Lincoln, Montana, during the time of Kaczynski's arrest.
He had no part in the search of Kaczynski's cabin, and never interviewed him.
As a docudrama, however, it depicts the life of the Unabomber dramatically and sympathetically so that you would be able to understand why he did such a cruel and despicable crime.
In any case, it is a profoundly thought-provoking docudrama.

Manhunt Unabomber is NOT a "true story of the serial bomber -- and the profiler who stopped him", as the DVD box says. There's a link below to an article by a former FBI agent that lays out how it is, to put it charitably, self-serving rubbish. If I were one of the people depicted, I'd sue. Then how is it as a work of fiction? MU has two big negatives: first, its lead Sam Worthington, who has the acting skills of a potato. Second, and more seriously, it's a simplified story of One Man Taking On the System. The screenplay sucks up to its hero, Agent James R. Fitzgerald (who is -- surprise surprise -- a writer on five of the episodes). A character gushes to him "you're using language to solve crimes! There's not even a word for that" -- which is not remotely true, even at the time. And it slams anyone who gets in his way. All of his superiors are weak, bigoted, abusive, and/or anti-new ideas. Fitzgerald is a misunderstood genius, just like Ted Kaczynski. I'm not kidding. MU makes that parallel. It's a shame, because MU has a lot going for it, including atmosphere, interesting details about the investigation, and Paul Bettany as Ted. The poetical looking Bettany is about the last person one would think of for that role, but his scenes are the best part of the series.

Watch the entire 5 hours plus in one sitting. Worth the solitude. Answers a lot of questions that were not answered when the real story was happening.

Jumped around a bit in time but very well written and acted. Especially liked brief interview with the real Fitz in Special Features. An interview with Ted on Youtube reveals his complete lack of remorse. If filmmakers are ever inclined to do an update on Ted as he is today at Colorado ADX in solitary for 23 hrs a day, many of us would be interested to know why he never bombed Harvard or the malevolent Prof. Murray Henry, who led the mind control test that clearly broke Kaczinski's mind. There must be some way round the statute of limitations precluding a lawsuit against both Harvard and the US govt for perpetrating such an evil test. The kid was 16, for goodness sake, and already showing somewhat antisocial tendencies that should have raised red flags. Jordan Peterson provides a very lucid critique of the flawed reasoning Kaczinski and similarly violent domestic terrorists use to justify their crimes. Essentially, in their view, the problems they have lie with the world not themselves, a rationale that allows them to escape responsibility. Look for the Parzam and Columbine lecture. Most edifying.

Amazing mini series that will have you on the edge of your seat, and make it impossible to look away. Each episode reveals layers of these tragic events that took place in American history, and its worth watching for mature audiences. The series shows the egregious acts of a man with a troubled past and in-depth insight on his beliefs.

I started watching this Discovery Channel miniseries because of the great cast, primarily Keisha Castle-Hughes, Mark Duplass, Elizabeth Reaser and Paul Bettany. I kept watching because it was fascinating how the case was solved. I didn't know much about the Unabomber case prior to watching this. Manhunt: Unabomber contains violence and is for mature audiences only.

A fascinating account of the Unabomer case and the main man who managed to solve it. It is rather long and involved, but well worth the time. I would have liked to have known more about the time after the conviction with both Fitz and Ted.

An excellent miniseries. It is very well done. I love the episode that focused on Ted's back story and his time at college. The actors are fantastic in their roles.
