Former astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, explains the steps necessary to put a human colony on Mars. He developed the concept of a spacecraft that orbits between Mars and Earth every 26 months. The Aldrin Cycler is one idea being considered by NASA because it does not use the amount of fuel a traditional rocket would. Aldrin and his author, Marianne Dyson have a very readable and interesting book on what it will take to go to and live on Mars. He even suggests how over hundreds of years, it would be possible to red Mars, green. I especially like the activities and experiments for children that help explain the physics behind what will be necessary.

This is a juvenile nonfiction book appropriate for upper elementary and older. As an adult and a teacher, I found it very interesting from a knowledge standpoint. I also can see how a unit on Mars could be developed using this book.
