Ethel is old, she is fat, she is black, and she is white. She is also a cat who is very set in her ways. Every day she goes outside to survey the land, monitor the weather, chase villains, and roll on her favorite sidewalk square. But one day, she accidentally rolls in sidewalk chalk and turns blue. She tries to lick her fur clean, but can't get it all off. Not only is Ethel still blue, but now she feels blue, until she meets a kitten named Fluffy. Fluffy has rolled in chalk himself, turning a stunning shade of pink. He helps Ethel see that being different can be a good thing.

This is a lovely story about friendship and self-acceptance. My kids (cat lovers all) laughed at the funny feline behaviors so well translated into illustration and storyline.

Sweet story about a cat whose normal routines are brightened as she adds some color to her life. Charming illustrations.

I love Ethel! The art is wonderful and full of great little details. Read this now and share with all you friends. I cannot wait to read more of Jennifer Black Reinhardt's books.

Blue Ethel is a delightful story about an old, fat, black and white cat that is very good at being an old, fat, black and white cat. Her usual stretch of sidewalk for rolling and napping is decorated one day with chalk and she discovers she is no longer black and white, but black and blue! Ethel finds that there are many different words for the color blue as well as more than one meaning. Will Ethel ever stop being blue? Read the book to find the answer and to add new words to your kiddo's vocabulary!
