Horrible movie!!!! Don't waste your time.
Not a very well put together movie. Even if you're watching it for the main actor, just, think twice.
Soft porn for teenagers and high schoolers....if you want your kids to learn that it is okay to have sex in high school as long as it is with the right person and as long as you use a condom, then this would be okay....but all the research (and there is a lot out there) indicates that kids who have sex get into all sorts of trouble more often than kids who don't, psychologically, emotionally, with their friends and family, with sexually transmitted disease, with pregnancy, with violence, with the law - despite what this movie and the sex ed curriculum says....
A very emotional movie!
This drama/mystery film stars Ansel Elgort and Chloe Grace Moretz, which in a way is the only thing that saves the film. The movie is about an intelligent high school kid and his best friend who he’s in love with, as they try to solve a murder together. This movie has one of those out of touch storylines where it is obvious that no one in the production of this film has either attended public high school, or has been a teenager within at least a decade. In my opinion, the movie just seemed lost a lot of the time and not too sure of what it was trying to convey. I would rate this movie 3/5 stars and recommend it to a teenage audience. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
What a waste....very appealing actors in an unappealing, boring movie. AVOID.
I gave this film one star. It was a snoozefest. I should have checked the Rotten Tomatoes review (0% critics and 23% audience scores). The film is a 10 minute film about a relationship between two high school students that includes about 10 minutes of a completely self-absorbed high school boy mistreating everyone around him because he can't contend with losing a friend in a drug-dealer-related shooting, and about 70 minutes of boring drawn out footage where nothing happens. They are attempting to conflate a story about a boy coping with loss, a coming of age love story and a story about how people are not all we think they are, and it just ended up being an unsubstantial bore. Part of their failure was trying to conflate three things, without ever really exploring any of them. Part of their failure was the boring dialogue, characters, cinematography and music. I can see why the critics hated it - 0% is pretty amazing.
Decent, but kind of predictable. I think the trailer gave away too much. Also, I'm pretty sure there's no service for pagers anymore - and I know this was set in the present day, because Moretz's character had a smartphone.
Good music, though. But then, I am a Bowie fan.
Well, I did enjoy the Bowie references. Did you count them?
The film shows how we make assumptions about people, their knowledge, values and activities based on race or appearance. Youthful idealism and hopeful beliefs about justice are shredded in the face of an over-burdened criminal justice system.
