I'm very appreciative that such a quirky, unusual film won the Academy Award for best picture instead of some typically earnest biography. This movie is lovely to watch and has an otherworldly magical glow. It is full of great performances and I liked the Beauty and the Beast romance. I found ... Read More »
Phenomenal. And I'm saying this as somebody who strongly dislikes romance movies.
This movie is more than just a quirky love story about a sea monster. It's a movie about the human condition, about compassion, and about the universal need for acceptance. This movie truly showcases Del Toro's tal... Read More »

Zelda: [Elisa looks noticeably happier] Why you smilin', hon? Well stop lookin' like that. What happened?
[Elisa shakes her head to say "nothing"]
Zelda: Why? How? How? Does he - have a...?
[Elisa nods and uses her hands to describe what the Amphibian Man's penis looks like]
Zelda: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
[pause]
Zelda: Lor'...! Never trust a man. Even when he looks flat down there.

"Decent?
"A man has the decency not to fuck up. Now that's one thing, that's real decent of him.
"But the other kind of decency, it doesn't really matter. We sell it, but it's an export. We sell it because we don't use it."

This is a film that speaks very loudly and lovingly to the "oddballs" of the world. It's for those who easily see beyond the surface of things and people--even "creatures".
Great acting and creative, inspired and effective production. The script had a few kinks here and there. But it was well worth the time spent.
I appreciate the cinematography which is quite beautiful, but I really don’t like the plot. The acting is just okay nothing outstanding.
Dark in mood, dark in setting. Interspecies sex? It's a NO from me.
Everything's weird and odd here: the spooky setting, alien fishman, speech-challenged leading lady, smoldering, off-his-hinges villain etc.
Most, though not all, these elements connect.
Beautiful love story. She too was a fish. Did you not notice her gills when the man touched her cheek?
I checked this out mainly because I was curious about it but it's really not my type of movie. The lead actress was very good, however. The movie feels way too dark, IMO. I did like the nostalgic feel of the movie.
A word of advice, never want a movie with the word "Water" in the title-- "Water World", "Lady in the Water," and now "The Shape of Water." The movie is filled with one dimensional characters, and exists to promote Hollywood's twisted view of the world.
The main character has sex with a freaking fish man! YES, sex with a fish man! I'm not talking about aqua man here, this fish man is 100% animal.
This is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. Stay away if you don't want disturbing images in your mind days after watching this.
Just as good the second time around.
This was a really beautiful film. I don't know why it took me so long to get around to it. I guess I was scared it wouldn't live up to expectations. Spoiler: it lived up to expectations. Ignore the reviews of the people here who obviously didn't know what they were signing up for. This movie deserved all the awards it got and then some.
My mom and I did not like this movie. It was nothing like the trailers I saw. I thought the story was going to be somewhat like the movie "Splash" and was anything but. The movie had way too much nudity, swearing, sex, sexual harassment, violence and bloodshed.
The trailers seemed like a movie about government secrets and love with a smart woman who can't verbalize it. I would not recommend watching this movie ever, save your time and money.
