This inspiring memoir by Gold Star parent and captivating DNC speaker Khizr Khan is the story of one family's pursuit of the American dream and why - especially in these tumultuous times - we must not be afraid to step forward for what we believe in when it matters most. An American Family is an intensely personal story about the nature of true patriotism and what it's like to risk everything you know for the promise of a 226-year-old piece of parchment

I started to cry when I got to the last few pages of this engrossing memoir by this intelligent, elegant son of a poor Pakistani farmer: a man who sometimes went hungry and was even homeless for a time in his long journey here, to America, where he got an LLM at Harvard, his family became American citizens, and one of his sons lost his life saving other American soldiers in a suicide bombing in Iraq. Mr. Khan is an American patriot in the best sense. He has an unshakeable faith in our (and his) country. As Senator McCain has said, "I'd like to say to Mr. and Mrs. Khan: Thank you for immigrating to America. We're a better country because of you....." A must read.

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The author is such an outstanding man, father, husband, citizen that I am about as impressed with a person as I possibly could be.
He was impressive talking at the Democratic National Convention in 2016 but his life story and how he came to live in the USA and become a citizen are just amazing.
I would encourage everyone to read this book.

I admire Khizr Khan for his courage and sacrifice in his convictions in believing the US has best way of life. He came from a poor family, eldest of 10 children. His grandparents and parents believe that he would succeed and prepares him for a better life.

The US is a country of immigrants, and it is build on the backs of immigrants that our country wouldn't be where it is today.

To be continued.
