Did you hear about little Amy Scott? She got a goldfish for her birthday and then just threw it in the ocean! That doesn't seem right.

I guess Sherman and Sadie will have to go save little Ellsworth (every fish deserves a proper name) on their own. They'll need:

A boat
Fishing gear
Twenty-one pink balloons
A bucket of paint
Appropriate headwear in case of weather--good or bad

Don't worry. Ellsworth is in good hands now, but what ever happened to little Amy Scott?

Join Sadie ( Special Delivery ) on another adventure in The Only Fish in the Sea , a delightful picture book by Philip C. Stead and Matthew Cordell.

Maybe I should have given this 3 1/2 stars but I was so charmed by the author and illustrator's creation, approach that I gave it 4. The book was written as though by a first or second grader--problem stated simply and solution approached as fact in simple faith. Because whatever the author wants to happen, does--the two children are able to rescue the goldfish according to plan. But along the way we are treated to illustrations of the town inhabitants (both human and creature) in a mass of details, often in humorous situations or reactions. As the rescue proceeds a troop of monkeys invite themselves on the mission and add to much of the humor. Not one word of dialogue or description includes them in the story, so they become a silent laugh-track to the story. Obvious fun for young readers and captivating for adults.;
