Ever since Riley Strout lost her mother two years ago, her survival has depended on her other family: the quirky kids she met in a grief support group at school. Jay, Kate, and Noah are the only people who understand her pain; each lost a loved one.

When Riley sees her dead mother shopping in a grocery store, she fears post-traumatic stress--until Jay and Kate report similar visions. Noah, having seen nothing, withdraws. Soon he disappears, and Riley fears the worst. But the frantic search for him unexpectedly draws Riley and the other two into a mystery surrounding a centuries-old relic and the clues it might offer about the afterlife. By reaching for the ones who are gone, Riley uncovers hidden truths about those she hasn't yet lost.

The book features 4 characters which is Riley, Kate, Jay and Noah. Each character has a loved one who has passed away. Such as Riley's mom and Kate's grandma I believe. Jay's dad owns a spiritual pendant in which he has found in a cave a long time ago. Each character has worn the necklace and seen a their dead loved one in the real world. In the story Noah goes missing and the gang reach out to find him. Then go through the mystery on how these events were to happen.

Things that I liked:
I liked how the author created a story on where friends work together to figure out the mystery of the pendant and it can relate to those who have lost a loved one in that way. They also use very figurative language. It is a good book for those who like a mystery.
The characters also have very diverse personalities and views on the world.

Things that can be improved:
However, the story I found was very difficult to follow at a lot of points and a few parts of the story aren't pulled together as well as I would have liked personally. I believe that the story was a little scattered all over the place.

I adore the friendship in this book. It deals with guilt and pushing through the hard times, using friendship and relying on others. There is a cool history, supernatural element as well with a touch of mystery. But truly the realistic and strong friendships are what made me love this book more.
