Interesting documentary about Japanese film star-hero; Toshiro Mifune. He was the ultimate samurai, tough guy, dynamic, physical performer who made many of his best films with director Akiro Kurosawa: The Seven Sarmurai, Roshomon, Yojimbo. Keanu Reeves narrates the documentary and his narration is about as exciting as his acting. They also interview actors who worked with Mifune, and Kurosawa’s son, as well as American directors Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese—interesting to hear their input. Several American classic films were inspired from Kurosawa/Mifune films – The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars. Covers Mifune’s background and how he got into film. His work with Kurosawa and their split. Covers their major films, some you may know, others films you may not be familiar with. I don’t think I have ever seen Yojimbo which is described as a comedy or the Hidden Fortress which was George Lucas’ inspiration for Star Wars (both available at SPL).

Interesting documentary about Japanese film star, Toshiro Mifune, with lots of great clips plus interviews with Japanese film stars and, among others, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
