This is a wonderful, poetic, understated, beautiful film. I'm a Jim Jarmusch fan, so everything he creates, I have to see two, three or four times. This is one of those films. It really is a poetic meditation. AND a sweet, sweet love story.

This isn't a very eventful movie. I liked it because it wasn't too eventful. I'm not to sure that I would say the same thing if I hadn't watched a video on Youtube called " Everyday Virtue | Paterson & David Foster Wallace" on the channel "Like Stories Of Old". I wouldn't say this is an 'overtly' intellectually charged movie ('Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai' with the ponderings of Forest Whitaker's character was more like that) but it's still there with Adam Driver's character working on his poetry and mundane struggles like his wife trying out creative forms of self-expression and the romantic relational turmoil William Jackson Harper's character undergoes. Things which let Paterson down by the end are compensated for in a way by a gift given by a stranger which is all the more encouraging to him.

A gorgeous, quiet, moving film guided by the genius director, Jim Jarmusch. The gentle humor, sweet poetry, and marital devotion in the bus driver's - Paterson's - life are masterfully woven together in the story to create a world that all of us workaday hacks can savor. The fim's uplifting ethos helps us to better see the good that is in each of our humble lives.

For the love of poetry, poetic.
There is love expressed by the act of writing poetry. There is love appreciated by the act of reading poetry.
Try it.

This offbeat project is actually very engaging, bringing droll humor and sweet-hearted feeling to its low-key affirmation of ordinary life.
It simply amazes me looking at some of the pans of this movie, how dead some people are to the simple pleasures and joys that life can offer ( like poetry ). I guess they are the true ' walking dead '.

A masterpiece. A great observation of daily life.

Agree with those who say this is a mundane and truly boring movie. I fell asleep repeatedly and couldn't figure out why it would last 2 hrs!? I kept waiting for something to happen and eventually I had to turn it off since nothing materialized. I like character development but the two main characters delivered their lines as if they were acting and there wasn't anything particularly interesting about the characters.

A quiet and infinitely lovely film from the master of understatement, Jim Jarmusch.

Surely one of the dullest stories ever filmed: a week in the life of a man whose days are so monotonous and unemotionally deadpan that changing his brand of matches stands as a highlight. He tediously documents trivial events and observations with poetry, but his poetry is truly boring. And, the fleeting wisps of irony injected into the story are too few and far between to be chuckle-worthy. If the poetry had ever risen above meaningless, then Jarmusch might have had a story to tell.

A week in the life of some ordinary people - slow, dull, monotonous. The wife and the bartender were the only ones who showed any energy or life. Not worth watching a second time.

Pages of quotes in IMDb. These from Japanese poet among the best in mho:

My poetry only in Japanese. No translation. Poetry in translations is like taking a shower with a raincoat on. ... Sometimes an empty page presents more possibilities.
