I really wanted to know more about the emotional intelligence of animals, and this book is a much more scientific study of instinctual intelligence. Additionally, he's a primate specialist, so he relies on ape studies more than anything else and I feel that ground is well-trod. I didn't make it all the way through it... the organization is a mess and you never quite know where it's going (in the audio book, at least). Additionally, the narrator has an annoying quality of taking each sentence up, then ending in a whisper. I think I'm going to try When Elephants Weep and see if I can get any closer to what I'm after...
