Haven't seen this since it came out so, briefly: Fortunately Ryan Gosling made it real big so this indy can get some more viewing. True story and not uncommon amongst Jews--the self-hating. Low on production, it's very indy, but some very nice dialogue exchanges. Also, gets the feeling of violence as theory vs practice--these basic productions can really be REAL. The 'cartoon' movies with budgets get lost in 'no style' and become powerless in many ways. Thus, they can be unintentionally shocking when there is EXTREME violence; fx is incredible today, most big $ directors are classless clueless. Gosling's talent shows immediately and his subsequent choice of films says a lot about him.
