characters can be played as being eccentric but this was over the top and not funny, just annoying.
Not like the books, I recognized one (1) character, and it wasn't the title character. Comedy/cozy murder mystery, about the same as 'Rosemary and Thyme', not as well done as 'Midsomer Murders '. Not awful, but below average, and disappointing because our heroine lacks the insecurity, the passion, and the bite that makes the book character so great.
Rated 10/10. This terrific series is a wonderful, quirky blend of comedy, drama, and mystery. I really felt entertained and engaged watching these episodes.
If you view the bonus sections of the DVD, it explains why the series was adapted to TV, changing some things, like the age of the main character. As far as I'm concerned, these shows are good fun by themselves. I have not read the books, so I had no prior expectations. In my opinion, I think it's unrealistic to expect any show to follow a book exactly, because it's a different medium. Even the author, on the DVD, said that the series did a good job.
I'm very much looking forward to Series 2, which was ordered by Acorn TV January 2018. So, hopefully it will be available on DVD by 2019.
I loved this series, even though it is quite different than the books and with different characters. Lots of laughs. Really love the housekeeper. I read recently where there will be a 2nd series and Ashley Jensen will be back as Agatha and I am looking forward to it. There will be a new Agatha book out later this year.
i did not read any of the books before watching the show, so i totally loved it! The first half of the first episode, I admit I wasn't too crazy about Agatha, but by the end of the episode, I was a dedicated fan. i love M.C. Beaton's other book series with Hamish McBeth as well, so thought I'd do the easy thing and just sit back with a DVD for Agatha Raisin. i will likely start reading some of those books as well eventually.
Never read the book. My wife has read them though. The video is hilariously funny. The acting is good. I give it two thumbs up.
Great fun! The familiar "fish out of water" trope gets a who dunnit flavor in a modern (if somewhat fairy tale-ish) fashion. Just enjoy!
I love the BBC radio series with Penelope Keith and Malcolm Sinclair. This show isn't a patch on that. It's different than the books as well, so we've got many varieties of Aggie now. Unfortunately, this is the least interesting of all the versions. A second series is not in the works. No surprise, I'm afraid.
Silly fun. Have no great expectations and you will not be disappointed! I found it relaxing.
I was quite disappointed with these episodes as I am a diehard Agatha Raisin fan. I didn't like the character rearrangements and "new" characters (Charles Fraith, the Bloxbys, Doris Simpson) though I could see it might make better "TV" to appeal to a younger audience. I got used to Agatha but she is supposed to be 50 not 40. If you haven't read the books it would be a fun series.
