A really nicely acted and and shot slice of life circa 1861 in rural Kentucky. Not a lot of action in this film, but just an up close and personal view of the relationship between two brothers, and the forces of life and society that affect them both. A very modern sort of film that rewards the attentive viewer.

This is a peculiar film- not quite a Western but more about two brothers- yet it's done in such an understated way that most people probably won't find this very interesting. I thought it was ok- not great- but ok for a low budget independent. It has a certain rough hewn charm to it despite it's many drawbacks ( which include a weird strobing effect during certain nighttime scenes ).
