This is definitely my favorite book in the series. Tavi really comes into his own here and it has so many of those re-readable moments that you want to go back to again and again. If you are two books in and debating whether to continue you will definitely want to stick around for this book.

This third book in the Codex Alera series is so far the best. The plot lines are more intricately and unexpectedly weaved together and the characters are growing and maturing in interesting ways. This novel comes closer to the level of George R.R. Martin's series, "A Song of Ice and Fire."

In my opinion the best of the series. All of the books rate 4+ on my scale but this one is a solid 5/5. Fantastic read - could not put it down.
