what I like about him is that he invited eric Clapton over to his house, got him high, and then had him play ALL the blues licks he could remember, while zappa recorded him. upon meeting john and yoko, they agreed they were surprised the other party were clean, which wasn't what they had heard about them. (john and yoko together translates to JOKO) "you know I love you baby, please don't go you know I love you baby don't go theres nothing I wouldn't do for you right now baby please don't go""eagle picks my eye, worm he licks my bones...black cloud cross my mind, just like Dylan's mr. jones"

This is an interesting movie about Frank Zappa, mainly his musical and political views before his death in 1993 that is still relevant today. It's amazing how little of his music receives U.S. radio play considering his ability and innovation. Now all that is left of that legacy in the U.S. is movies like these, his music (CD, DVD, some sheet) that thankfully is available at our library, a handful of musicians that played with Frank who still perform, and most importantly his oldest now 40-something son Dweezil who continues to perform his father's music as Frank would have performed if he were limited to a relatively small band of 6 and concert venues like the Neptune in Seattle where he most recently played in April, 2017. Sadly the Zappa family is not united in an effort to maintain the musical memory of Frank Zappa.

Good Zappa documentary- lets the man speak for himself.

After watching this doc I now call Zappa the "Noam Chomsky with a guitar" - perhaps with Chris Hedges as his roadie. It's pure intelligence as Zappa observes the world around him - the proof being in today's North American politics. The music is cool too. I guess that's what happens when you don't do drugs - awareness. Very entertaining story.

Filmmaker Thorsten Schutte’s uses only interview and performance footage, giving us a vision of the man as he wanted himself presented. The film shows us both Zappa’s exceptional skill and extraordinary standards. He was always evolving, pushing the limits of genre, and he challenged anything and everyone who tried to steer him away from his principles. I can’t think of anyone today like him, so difficult it is now to find a popular musician (as in well known) with his commitment to individuality and capacity to stay the course.

Zappa is certainly an interesting subject. The film puts together probably all of the interviews with him. However, the perspectives of his band members and other musicians would have been welcome.

This guy gives some of the best interviews I have ever heard. Worth watching if you are interested in Frank or just music history. Every musician's musician will tell you that Frank Zappa had and outsized effect on the world of music. A true maverick. Awesome watch.
