This was just okay. The "heroes" of this liberal movement were idealistic but young and inexperienced. It was clear, as they admitted toward the end of the documentary, that they were not well organized and had no real plan for establishing a government or actual experience in writing a new constitution for the country. They were just good at showing up at Tahrir Square with a guitar, shows of solidarity and sleeping in tents.
The army's excesses and violation of human rights certainly need to be exposed and punished. And, yes, they were the henchmen for the past 30 years in Egypt propping up Mubarak and could not fully be trusted. Yet, early on they did not use violence. It seems things only turned violent when they put stability over anything else. The young immature "heroes" kept persisting for things that they had no practical plan to put into action. The army got tougher with them. That is worrisome but they went from giving people a chance to vent to trying to ensure the country did not fall into chaos.
Also, we never did get any real sense of what the Muslim Brotherhood stood for (other than religion) and why they were so bad (did they never make any attempt to work with other parties? I don't know, this film tells me little). It seemed they were "evil" because the young, immature "heroes" didn't like them. You also never get a true sense of how many other Egyptians shared their vision of the country. You got snippets of other people's views, like that one lady who just wanted someone who could lead the country effectively, heck "even a Jew!" she said.
Not sure why this film won so many awards. I guess the first hand camera shots of an actual revolt was interesting enough.

This is an excellent documentary of the grassroots struggle in Egypt.
