What a crotchety old man! I love him. Reminds me of my grandfather in many, and often uncomfortable, ways.

I feel like each of us knows somebody like Ove—a headstrong elder from an earlier generation who's hopelessly out-of-sync with the modern ways of the world. But with age comes wisdom, only this wisdom is buried beneath a shell that's been hardened from a lifetime of experiences.

Give this book a try. You'd have to be far crotchetier than Ove not to be moved by his story.

What a lovely story to remind readers that hope and purpose can reappear, even in the face of overwhelming grief, and that each of us can make positive differences in others' lives. Heartwarming, funny, sweet and life-affirming.

I laughed, I cried, and I laughed again. Ove is a curmudgeon with a heart of gold.

I was skeptical at the start, but this turned out to be a very sweet story. Humor interlaced throughout, bringing some levity to serious and sad topics, particularly in the beginning. Glad that I listened to the audiobook so I could hear the correct pronunciation of some of the characters' names!

I laughed and I cried. A wonderful read.

This has reinforced why I never give up on a book. This had a very slow beginning, and I was thinking to myself how much longer do I need to listen to this. About midway through, the book definitely redeemed itself and I didn't want it to end. I thought there was great character development. Would highly recommend.

This was one of the best books I've listened to recently. The narrator's voice worked for me as Ove's story unfolded and he uses an excellent amount of gruffness when Ove speaks. Not to mention the story is beautiful.

Pretty good, lots of warm fuzzies. Was somewhat predictable, and didn't love as much as many others do, but the story is like a warm bubble bath, so who cares if it's a little predictable.

I laughed, I rolled my eyes, I smirked, I cried. This book took me all through the spectrum of emotions. Ove (OO-vuh) is just your typical, aging, recently-widowed man that is struggling to move forward with life after losing his wife of nearly 40 years. A total grump & a man who is SET in his ways (aka the only RIGHT way), the people around him have difficulties getting close or even interacting with him. But along comes an unlikely, young neighbor woman & her husband & children that will slowly give Ove reason to keep on living. This book builds his character so well that I feel that if I were to meet the man in real-life, I would know Ove as a personal friend. I would throw my arms around Parvaneh, the neighbor woman, & thank her for having a heart that could see a man & need & never give up until she broke through his tough shell.

Age recommendation: 14 & over (occasional profanity)

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 8.
