A little unrealistic, however still a great film to watch.

A well-crafted thriller with Le Carré's trademark emphasis on betrayal, honour and 'doing the right thing' in a world that has lost its moral compass. Two fine actors are the sheet anchors. Stellan Skarsgard steals the show as a larger-than-life Russian criminal of the 'honourable' school, and Damian Lewis is the MI6 man who bears a passing resemblance to George Smiley and who has a score to settle with a cabinet minister on the take. Ewan McGregor nicely underplays the British academic caught up in the drama - though his love interest (Naomi Harris) could have (and maybe should have) been written out of the screenplay without damaging the plot. Add the outstanding location scouting, imaginative direction and arresting photography and you have a nice evening's entertainment.

Average film, but the plot was lacking -- having Ian and Damian brought it up a notch, but didn't care for Stellan Skaarsgard in his role of a Russian mobster, and his dialogue had too much foul language for my taste. Love Ian McGregor, but the behavior of his character was not believable.

I had never heard of this movie - read a review on the library site and put a hold on it. Loved this movie - great spy thriller - fun to watch - loved the story line - and great cast - and I love Ewan McGregor.

Excellent thriller...recommended.

This a well made thriller about an ordinary man who gets pulled into the world of international crime and conspiracy by his own good nature which seems to be exploited by both the British intelligence and the Russian Mafia. Ewan McGregor is quite good as the everyman who is in over his head but Stellan Skarsgard steals every scene he is in with an excellent boisterous big bear of a performance. Flies under the radar to more highly hyped movies but does a daring thing of actually having a well written narrative.

Really enjoyed this film...probably because I liked all the actors.

Not great but certainly enjoyable entertainment. Nice plot twist that this is a "can they do it" as opposed to the usual "who done it". S Skarsgard's performance is worth the price of admission.

Good-looking spy-flick loaded with cliches, literally nothing unexpected. But if easy-entertainment is what you're going for, by all means, see it.

"Our kind of traitor" is not my kind of movie. I've read a lot of John LeCarre books and seen a number of television and movies based on these works. This one was the most boring of all of them. I was unmoved by any of the scenes, except for the last one, indicating the movie is over This movie had a cheap budget and showed it. Obviously, the current vogue is put whites and blacks together but I don't see McGregor and Harris as couple of the year. I will say that Stellan Skarsgard is a terrific heavyweight bad guy. John LeCarre has been writing spy fiction for 50 years and is really an interesting guy. Certainly Americans don't. Does the modern audience even keep up with Russian criminal money laundering? But this story doesn't hold the attention. Director Susanna White means I will not expect much from her in any future programming. I think someone wanted to put a woman as the director and it is too much for her.

You know what the Vory is, Professor?
It's like mafia but with honour.
Money has no smell as long as there's enough of it. Who cares what the Russians do as long as they
spend their cash here?
-There's really no need to be quite so emotional.
You're right, Mr Secretary. We've all seen too much of the world. Not wanking around? And all the dirty money that's sloshing around, the profits of heartache and pain, we've seen that, too. Heroin in Afghanistan, billions. Arms in the Sudan, billions. Female trafficking, billions. An eighth of the world's fxcking economy black as black. We all know that. Blood money. That's all it is. It can be in a box under a drug lord's bed or in a city bank next to the vintage port. It doesn't change colour. It's still blood money.
