BEAUTIFUL STORY. The author lets the reader see into the minds of women during a horrible time. But she also reveals their personal and emotional baggage that they bring with them. It affects their values and decision and other's lives.

This story centers around three women who have survived World War II in very different ways. Each woman comes from very different backgrounds and had a different view of the rise and fall of Nazism and their place in Germany. It was difficult not to draw parallels between the views and actions of the women during this time period, and the complacency and activity occurring in populist movements in the world today. A fascinating story of a tragic period of history through the eyes of women.

Good story. Reminded me of the Nightingale by Hannah.

This addition to the historical fiction of WW II provides a realistic look at the experience of a diverse group of German citizens. We understand the societal and psychological pressures in Germany and how they came to play out in the lives of those who would become heroic resisters and those who became unwitting and unwilling pawns on the side of great evil.

In my old age I thought "oh no, not another WW2 story" but I have to say, it is really good.
I really got caught up in the lives of the three women, and the author writes well. ( I really wish
the library and publisher's comments would stop with so much detail. What are they thinking?!)

It's a rare thing to find a book that you can't put down because it is such a compelling read. "The Women in the Castle" is one of those rare books. Highly recommend this book, especially if you are a fan of the WWII genre.

Sometimes difficult subject matter but an excellent book. Three women and their children survive Germany in WWII and what happens after.
