The past comes back to haunt game warden Joe Pickett and his family with devastating effect in the thrilling new novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

The plane circled in the dark. Joe Pickett could just make out down below a figure in the snow and timber, and then three other figures closing in. There was nothing he could do about it. And Joe knew that he might be their next target.

The Cates family had always been a bad lot. Game warden Joe Pickett had been able to strike a fierce blow against them when the life of his daughter April had been endangered, but he'd always wondered if there'd be a day of reckoning. He's not wondering any longer. Joe knows they're coming after him and his family now. He has his friend Nate by his side, but will that be enough this time? All he can do is prepare...and wait for them to make the first move.

I love the Joe Pickett series by CJ Box - but they are so much better listened to as an audiobook. I wish the Arapahoe Library District would get the entire collection on Playaway.

This series is excellent! Joe Pickett is a terrific character; he tries hard to do the right thing, and he frequently battles truly evil people. The last several books in this series could be one long book. I think that readers starting with this book would be lost. Instead, give yourself a treat and start at the beginning, as there is a lot of character development as well as many excellent plots. (This latest book is good, but there are better ones earlier in the series.) Enjoy!

Love C.J.Box's style of writing. Not many mystery writers out there which incorporate true concerns of our forests and rivers. This book seemed to stretch out , to to long to get to the action and the writing lacked its normal luster. C+

I love C.J. Box and not just because we went to the same college; go Pioneers! This is #17 in the life of game warden Joe Pickett. This time the past has come back to haunt, not only him, but his entire family. The Cates family won't give up easily and are steadfast in their need for revenge. Plenty of action and twists solidify this as a Box must-read.

Usually his books I can't put down. It was a little boring at first. But,all things considered it was okay. I miss him being more involved with his characters. I love his characters especially Nate and Joe's family.

Another page-turner from C J Box. The story took a long time to build but the ending seemed rushed. Otherwise, its a solid read.
