NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * In this definitive novel, readers will follow Thrawn's rise to power--uncovering the events that created one of the most iconic villains in Star Wars history.

One of the most cunning and ruthless warriors in the history of the Galactic Empire, Grand Admiral Thrawn is also one of the most captivating characters in the Star Wars universe, from his introduction in bestselling author Timothy Zahn's classic Heir to the Empire  through his continuing adventures in Dark Force Rising, The Last Command, and beyond. But Thrawn's origins and the story of his rise in the Imperial ranks have remained mysterious. Now, in Star Wars: Thrawn, Timothy Zahn chronicles the fateful events that launched the blue-skinned, red-eyed master of military strategy and lethal warfare into the highest realms of power--and infamy.

It's a good book for patient readers who don't mind reading a lot. There is a ton of characters though and it's a hard read.

An excellent portrayal of the formative years of young adult Mitth'raw'narudo, or Thrawn as he's more popularly known. Timothy Zahn may have created one of the best beloved original Star Wars characters, and his legacy on the brand is profound, but more than that, Zahn just shines as a talented writer who knows how to write characters and breathe life into the unknown.

Here, War is a game of skills in art form. Lured by the romanticized galaxy, I don't perceive true evil or good but mistakes and follies.
My admiration for Thrawn (a nonhuman Chiss finally lost mystic luster) was dwindling with Arihnda Pryce growing strong, she is a human who plays politics and won! I'm more disappointed than surprised at the end, and hope the sequel will prove the plot (along with characters' fate) is intricate and smart!
I couldn't say I liked Eli, but he seems to be the most genuine, and is interesting and pivotal. Cygni was a mystery, but he died!
Each chapter has a prelude in italic, which implication and didactic statements made me exhilarated first, then mildly annoyed - paraphrasing "Sun Tzu's Art of War" (perhaps?).

Grand Admiral Thrawn is one of my favorite villains from the Star Wars universe, and I've enjoyed reading all the books that he's been in, as well as watching him in Star Wars Rebels.
It's no surprise then that I was excited to read this.
I had hoped that Thrawn would be the same character I had enjoyed reading about in the other novels by pulling off genius victories, being admirably calm, and studying art.
After finishing, I can say that I wasn't disappointed.
This book was fun to read, and I liked coming across all the plot twists and surprises toward the end.
While I really didn't like the whole showering of bad words everywhere, I think that Thrawn is another great Timothy Zahn book and I think that all fans of Timothy Zahn novels (or Thrawn) will enjoy it too.

"A friend need not be kept either within sight or within reach. A friend must be allowed the freedom to find and follow his own path. If one is fortunate, those paths will for a time join. But if the paths separate, it is comforting to know that a friend still graces the universe with his skills, and his viewpoint, and his presence. For is one is remembered by a friend, one is never truly gone." -Grand Admiral Thrawn

"I am a warrior, Your Majesty. A warrior may retreat. He does not flee. He may lie in ambush. He does not hide. He may experience victory or defeat. He does not cease to serve." -Grand Admiral Thrawn
